The Joy of Learning Multiliteracies (MOI) is a programme and a research project managed by the Playful Learning Center (Faculty of Educational Science at the University of Helsinki) and leaded by Professor Kristiina Kumpulainen. The aim of the programme is to develop models, such as, learning environments and pedagogical arrangements, based on latest research to boost multiliteracy among children aged 0–8. It entails professional development and collaboration among professionals working in early childhood education and the initial stages of primary education, and also in the library and cultural sector. The project also evaluates the effectiveness of the models and approaches via scientific research and disseminates it so that they can be utilized more widely in formal education, cultural institutions, as well as in children’s homes and communities.
